Eric Sorensen, Ph.D.

President and Chief Executive Officer

Biography

Dr. Sorensen is the President and Chief Executive Officer of PanAgora, and a member of the firm’s Investment, Operating, and Risk Committees. He is responsible for PanAgora’s business and investment activities.

He took over leadership of PanAgora in 2004, and established a new research and investment direction for the firm. Prior to joining PanAgora, Dr. Sorensen was Director of Quantitative Research at Putnam Investments, overseeing the activities of several quantitative teams including equity, fixed income, asset allocation and financial engineering. He was also Chief Investment Officer of Structured Equity, that which managed institutional portfolios using advanced quantitative approaches.

Between 1986 and 2000 Dr. Sorensen was the Global Head of Quantitative Research at Salomon Brothers (now Citigroup). At the end of his 14 years on Wall Street, he led a group of 55 quantitative analysts comprising teams in New York, London, Singapore, Tokyo and Australia. During that time he published extensively, and consulted with institutional investor clients around the world. His honors include many years on the Institutional Investor All American Research Team, and several Graham and Dodd awards for excellence in financial writing.

Prior to Wall Street, he was a professor with a productive academic career from 1974 to 1986. For a decade he was Professor of Finance and Department Head at the University of Arizona. He has published over 50 journal articles and served on the editorial boards of several academic Finance journals. He is also co-author of the recent book, Quantitative Equity Portfolio Management.

Between 1969 and 1974 he served the country as a United States Air Force Officer and jet pilot. His primary mission was instructor pilot in high-performance jet aircraft.

With over 40 years of quantitative research and investment experience, Dr. Sorensen is a leading expert in the industry. He continues to maintain affiliations in both the industry and academia.

Michael H. Turpin, CFA

Chief Operating Officer

Biography

Mr. Turpin is Chief Operating Officer at PanAgora. As such, he is focused on PanAgora’s business and support functions. He is responsible for the corporate finance, investment operations, systems, compliance, and corporate administration teams at PanAgora. He is a member of the firm’s Operating and Directors Committees.

Prior to joining PanAgora, Mr. Turpin was employed as a Certified Public Accountant, and later in securities operations at The Boston Company.

Robert Job, CFA

Head of Business Development and Client Solutions

Biography

Mr. Job is the Head of PanAgora’s Business Development and Client Solutions. Mr. Job is responsible for managing PanAgora’s business development and relationships with institutional investors, consultants, and distribution partners. He is also a member of the firm’s Operating and Management Committees. Prior to PanAgora, Mr. Job was the Director of Global Consultant Relations at Putnam Investments. Before joining Putnam Investments, Mr. Job served in the United States Army from 1988-1992.

George D. Mussalli, CFA

Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research, Equity

Biography

Mr. Mussalli is Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research, Equity. He is responsible for oversight of the firm’s Dynamic, Stock Selector, and Diversified Arbitrage strategies, as well as the Equity team’s Data Infrastructure, Portfolio Construction, and Trading teams. He is also a member of the firm’s Investment, Operating, and Directors Committees.

As Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research, Equity, Mr. Mussalli directs innovative equity research used in the development of models used within PanAgora’s equity strategies. Prior to becoming Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research, Equity, Mr. Mussalli served as Head of PanAgora’s Stock Selector strategies. His work focuses on combining fundamental insights with sophisticated quantitative techniques to develop proprietary models designed to analyze companies across many dimensions. In addition to overseeing the management of the firm’s Stock Selector strategies, he has significantly contributed to the proprietary pool of equity research leveraged across the entire firm during his tenure. The research he has conducted also led to the founding of the firm’s Diversified Arbitrage hedge fund strategy in 2010.

Before joining PanAgora, he was a Portfolio Manager on the Putnam Investments Structured Equity team, where he was responsible for Structured Equity portfolios. He contributed to quantitative research and analysis that supported all equity strategies, including International and Global strategies.

Prior to joining Putnam, Mr. Mussalli worked as a Senior Investment Analyst at John Hancock Funds.

Edward Qian, Ph.D., CFA

Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research, Multi Asset

Biography

Dr. Qian is the Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research, Multi Asset for the firm. His primary responsibilities include investment research and portfolio management in PanAgora’s Multi Asset group. He is also a member of the firm’s Investment, Operating, and Directors Committees.

Dr. Qian has a distinguished career in investment management as well as academia. A renowned researcher, Dr. Qian’s pioneering work, “On the Financial Interpretation of Risk: Risk Budgets Do Add up”, became a cornerstone for what is commonly referred to as “Risk Parity” type investment strategies today. Dr. Qian’s research has helped PanAgora become a leader in the area of risk budgeting strategies by launching the first Risk Parity Portfolios earlier this decade. He is the author of the recently published book, Risk Parity Fundamentals. Dr. Qian has authored many articles regarding quantitative equity investment techniques as well as co-author of the book, Quantitative Equity Portfolio Management: Modern Techniques and Applications.

Prior to joining PanAgora, Dr. Qian was a Portfolio Manager and part of the Asset Allocation team at 2100 Capital, an alternative investments firm. His prior experience includes a role as Senior Asset Allocation Analyst on Putnam Investments’ Global Asset Allocation team. Before joining Putnam, he was a fixed-income Quantitative Analyst at Back Bay Advisors.

Dr. Qian is a CFA charterholder and additionally, he was a National Science Foundation Research Fellow at MIT.

Jaime H. Lee, Ph.D.

Director, Equity

Biography

Dr. Lee is a Director at the firm and leads the Dynamic Equity Team. Her primary responsibilities include oversight and management of the team, conducting research to uncover new alpha sources, building quantitative stock selection models, and managing portfolios within the Dynamic Equity strategies. Dr. Lee is a key contributor to the innovative equity research used in the development of PanAgora’s Dynamic Equity models. Dr. Lee is a member of the firm’s Operating and Directors Committees.

Prior to joining PanAgora, Dr. Lee was a Managing Director of the Scientific Active Equity team at BlackRock, Inc., where she managed the Emerging Markets strategies and portfolio management team. Her prior experience includes a role as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Barclays Global Investors as well as Research and Portfolio Management roles at Quantal Asset Management, where she managed quantitative equity strategies investing in Japan and Europe.

Richard Tan, CFA

Director, Equity

Biography

Mr. Tan is a Director at the firm and leads the Stock Selector Equity Team. His primary responsibilities include oversight and management of the team, conducting research to uncover new alpha sources, building quantitative stock selection models, and managing portfolios within the Stock Selector Equity strategies. Mr. Tan is a key contributor to the innovative equity research used in the development of PanAgora’s Stock Selector and Diversified Arbitrage Equity models. Mr. Tan is a member of the firm’s Operating and Directors Committees.

Prior to joining PanAgora, he worked as an analyst for the Quantitative Investment Group of Wellington Management where he contributed to efforts on investment and quantitative research processes.

Before joining Wellington, Mr. Tan worked in various roles for Fidelity Investments and Accenture. He also co-founded an investment website during the late dot-com era.

Bryan D. Belton, CFA

Director, Multi Asset

Biography

Mr. Belton is a Director within the Multi Asset group.  Mr. Belton is responsible for research as well as the daily management of the firm’s Risk Parity, global fixed income, currency, and commodity portfolios. Mr. Belton is a member of the firm’s Directors and Operating Committees.

Prior to joining PanAgora, Mr. Belton was the Investment Portfolio Officer at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston.  In that role, he was responsible for actively managing and hedging all of the Bank’s long-term investment portfolios.  Before joining the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, Mr. Belton was a Senior Manager at Investors Bank & Trust Company.

Nicholas Alonso, CFA

Director, Multi Asset

Biography

Mr. Alonso is a director within the Multi Asset group. He is responsible for quantitative model research, development and enhancements for PanAgora’s Multi Asset strategies. He is also responsible for the development and management of PanAgora’s Risk Parity Equity strategies, including alternative- and smart-beta strategies. Mr. Alonso joined PanAgora from Mellon Capital Management (formerly Franklin Portfolio) where he was a Quantitative Analyst primarily responsible for research and management of Market Neutral Equity portfolios.

Mark A. Barnes, Ph.D.

Director, Multi Asset

Biography

Dr. Barnes is a Director and Portfolio Manager within the Multi Asset group. He is responsible for quantitative model research, development, and enhancements for PanAgora’s emerging and developed equity strategies. He is also responsible for the development and management of PanAgora’s Risk Parity Equity strategies, including targeted beta exposure strategies. Prior to joining PanAgora, he worked for Manhattan Funds (now Weiss Asset Management) which specialized in emerging market investments.

Joel G. Feinberg

Director, Equity

Biography

Mr. Feinberg is a Director in the Equity Investments Team. His responsibility, as Head of Portfolio Construction and Implementation, is for the optimization, construction, and trading of client portfolios that employ the firm’s Equity Investment strategies. Mr. Feinberg is also a member of the firm’s Investment Committee, Directors Committee, and Risk Management Committee.

Prior to joining the Equity team, Mr. Feinberg was a Research Associate in the Macro Strategies group at PanAgora. As a member of the Macro Strategies team, Mr. Feinberg contributed to the quantitative research and analysis of the TAA and Active/Passive products.

David B. Liddell

Director, Multi Asset

Biography

Mr. Liddell is a Director in the Multi Asset group. His primary responsibility is for the management of the group’s emerging equity strategies. He shares his economic and political knowledge of these diverse and dynamic markets with colleagues and clients alike. Mr. Liddell’s prior responsibilities include management of PanAgora’s Global Equity, U.S. Small Cap, and U.S. Asset Allocation products. Mr. Liddell is a member of PanAgora’s Directors Committee as well as the firm’s Trading and Investment Practices Committee.

Prior to joining PanAgora, Mr. Liddell worked in the domestic custody fixed income division at The Boston Company.

Oleg Nusinzon, CFA

Director, Equity

Biography

Mr. Nusinzon is a Director on the Dynamic Equity Management Team. His primary responsibilities include managing and overseeing portfolios, conducting research to uncover new alpha sources, building quantitative stock selection models within the Dynamic Equity strategies. Mr. Nusinzon is a key contributor to the innovative equity research used in the development of PanAgora’s Dynamic Equity models. Mr. Nusinzon is a member of the firm’s Directors Committee.

Prior to joining the Dynamic Equity Team Mr. Nusinzon was a Director on PanAgora Stock Selector Equity Team. While there, he developed and ran International Long-Short, and Mergers & Acquisitions Portfolios for Stock Selector Diversified Arbitrage Fund. Mr. Nusinzon also ran the Global Stock Selector Portfolio.

Before PanAgora, Mr. Nusinzon worked as a Quantitative Research Analyst at Fidelity Management & Research Co., where he focused on quantitative research and stock selection models. Mr. Nusinzon also worked as an Associate in Credit Suisse HOLT group, writing and researching investment ideas based on the HOLT model.

As a founding member of Citigroup spinoff, Communicator Inc, Mr. Nusinzon developed Bond Hub – an award winning Fixed Income Research portal and a primary source for Fixed Income research.

Kun Yang, Ph.D., CFA

Director, Multi Asset

Biography

Dr. Yang is a Director within the Multi Asset group. His primary responsibilities include conducting research to uncover new alpha/factor premium sources, building quantitative portfolio construction process, and managing market-neutral strategies across commodities, global equities, fixed income and currencies. Dr. Yang joined PanAgora from Vanderbilt University where he received his Ph.D. in Economics, with specialization in International Finance, Financial Econometrics and Asset Pricing.

William G. Zink

Director, Multi Asset

Biography

Mr. Zink is a Director in the Multi Asset group. The Multi Asset team is responsible for the development and management of top down strategies for both active market returns and market neutral, true alpha, strategies. He is also responsible for developing and evaluating trading strategies and has over 15 years experience trading derivative securities, including financial futures and exchange traded funds. In addition to his product development and portfolio management responsibilities, Mr. Zink provides strategic guidance as a member of the Directors Committee.

Prior to joining PanAgora, Mr. Zink was Vice President in charge of portfolio management and mutual fund pricing businesses at Interactive Data Corporation.
